This year members, groups and friends of the congregation donated a record number of backpacks, all stuffed with school uniforms and school supplies, to help 34 HomeFront kids start the school year off right and have a brighter, happier year at school.
In addition, The Dancing Spirits group donated $160 directly to the HomeFront Back to School project to be used for school trip participation, class pictures, after school snack supplies and anything else the kids may need.
Barbara Drew and her Women’s Spirituality Circle again this year donated a filled backpack in honor of Ruth Anne Rosenberg, who was one of the first UUCWC members to support and continue the HomeFront Back-to-School Drive.
Ruth Anne joined UUCWC in 1994 and immediately became involved in social justice activities. She assisted with the HomeFront children and often arranged for special cakes for them. She helped others in need and played a vital role with Loaves and Fishes. Ruth Anne sponsored many children in underdeveloped countries and was a Big Sister. She also sponsored adult women through the Women to Women program and was a long-time literacy tutor. It has been 10 years since her passing, and she continues to be remembered at UUCWC for her quiet strength, gentle compassion and dry sense of humor.
Many thanks to all who participated in this important project and helped make it such a success. The ongoing generosity of our members is greatly appreciated!
And a big thank you to Pam and Grant Wallace for their efforts in coordinating this project and enabling the participation of UUCWC members.
