Hike the Abbott Marshlands, Roebling Memorial Park Sunday February 23rd; weather permitting.
This hike is approximately 2.5 miles of easy terrain.
On the watery fringes of Trenton and Hamilton and the bluffs overlooking the Abbott Marshlands, several trails offer opportunities to see animal and plant life, as well as an unusual historical setting. The Spring Lake Trail offers views of the lake by that name, where there are tidal fresh water marshes and beaver-created ponds. The Island Trails lace a once farmed upland interior with swampy low-lying edges. In the early 1900’s, the site was once the location of the very popular White City Amusements, complete with roller coaster and merry-go-round. Tulpehaking Nature Center and the historic Isaac Watson House are also located on this property.
Greg Pontier will be our guide for this trip.
Meet in the UUCWC parking lot at 12:30 PM for carpooling or meet at 1:00 PM at the Tulpehaking Nature Center, 157 Westcott Avenue.
