Highlights from the Food Ministry Team

by Christine Piatek, for the Food Ministry

The Food Ministry team is deeply grateful for the congregation’s support of the Chili Fundraiser on December 15th.  While the goal of the chili meal was to raise funds for charity, it also provided a fun time of fellowship before the Love Jazz Band concert that afternoon. We served homemade beef and vegan chili with corn muffins, all lovingly prepared by members of the Food Ministry.

Through your generosity, we collected $470, including $40 in donations, to support the Morrisville Interfaith Food Alliance (IFA). The IFA is a consortium of faith-based, community, individuals, and business organizations that provides and funds many services in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The IFA center in Morrisville, a volunteer-run organization with no paid staff, provides a supplemental food source for 190 children from 87 families in the Morrisville school system. Each family receives a monthly grocery store gift card, food pantry supplies, and other services.

Our next project, with your support, is a Food Drive for The Chubby’s Project, a Hopewell Borough-based non-profit that provides cooked meals to families in need and operates a 24/7 food pantry in town. Please consider donating any needed items, including canned fruit, canned tuna/salmon/sardines, canned chicken, tomato sauce, crushed or whole tomatoes, and dry cereal. A labeled bin will be available in the church lobby to receive donations on Sundays, January 19, 26, and February 2. Please remember to check expiration dates and donate only items well within the listed dates, as expired items cannot be accepted and must be discarded.

We continue to provide a meal once a month for the Monday night HomeFront tutoring program at UUCWC and deliver supper sandwich bags one Tuesday each month to HomeFront’s Joy, Hopes and Dreams program at the Lawrence Community Center. In January, we will resume monthly meal preparation for the LutherArms, a senior housing community in Trenton. We will partner with the Princeton UU Congregation in late March to provide the meal for Loaves and Fishes at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Trenton.
