What do an Earth scientist, a singing global intercultural educator, a legislative advisor, a solar engineer, a breathwork instructor, a scientist passionate about Native American spirituality, and a retired nurse have in common? We’re all UUs, and we’re excited for the Spring Equinox!
As autumn arrived and the election season loomed, I needed to ground myself, seeking connection with the Earth and my UU community. Drawing on my pagan and Earth-centered spirituality, I gathered a circle in the UUCWC sanctuary, finding renewed inspiration in our shared energy.
Sandy Unger attended that gathering and later led a Moon Walk, alongside Barbara Drew, for the November full moon. The two then proposed a Winter Solstice program, which sparked enthusiasm from Mark Pokyrska. Mark, a solar engineer, who has long advocated honoring solstices and equinoxes, jumped in wholeheartedly: “Whatever it takes to make it happen, I’m in.”
Now, plans are set for our Vernal Equinox Earth-Centered Celebration and Seasonal Service (VEECC) on Friday, March 21, from 6-8 p.m. at UUCWC. This family-friendly event will feature music, singing, chanting, poetry, storytelling, meditation, and reflections on how different cultures and scientific perspectives honor the equinox. Weather permitting, we’ll spend some time outdoors. The evening will conclude with potluck refreshments and a chance to unwind together.
Inspiration is still flowing, so stay tuned to the weekly email announcements for updates. Join us to celebrate, connect, and embrace this turning point in the year as we honor our natural world and our community.
